The Friday Five: White and Gold

Guys, the dress is definitely white and gold. Actually, this little debate that is blowing up the internet is pretty funny and there finally seems to be an explanation for the science behind seeing the different colors. Quite frankly, when I turn down the brightness on my laptop I can see the dress as blue and black. Regardless, it was pretty funny to hear what everyone thought last night!

Friday Five: Ready for Spring

Guys, it's an important day! Do you know why? Baseball is back! Yes, today the Yankees pitchers and catchers report marking the official start of Spring Training and my countdown to seeing a few games over Spring Break. I am so incredibly ready for that trip to Florida. I mean, mentally I am ready...physically, I could use a few extra weeks of crunches before I go anywhere in a bikini.

Today's plans for me include a little spring cleaning and dinner and a movie...alone. I swear it's not pathetic and I am actually really excited about it. I am going to watch one of the Oscar nominated movies since I haven't seen any of them. If it's not on Netflix, I don't watch it these days.

Friday Five: Missing Motivation

Okay, I don't normally struggle with motivating myself this much on a Friday because it is still a weekday, but today I am still lounging around my apartment, doing nothing. In all seriousness, I have a lot to do today, but motivation seems to have escaped me. The most important thing I have to do is get ready to have everyone over for our Galentine's Day celebration tonight! I realized that it is the perfect excuse to break out my glitter wine glasses, which have been sitting in a box since we moved in. Maggie and I have quite the collection of cups and glasses between us so I just never unpacked them.

The Friday Five

My new favorite part of weekend mornings is starting the day with a "progressive breakfast" with Logan. She and I are both early risers on the weekend and it is such a great chance to catch up with her. We start off with a trip to Bodo's for a bagel and after we finish that, we meander over to Shenandoah Joe's for a coffee and chat. With college winding down, I am really starting to value the little things and experiences I have here, knowing that there is limited time left. Also, I picked up my cap and gown yesterday so I am feeling extra sentimental.

Friday Five: Vacations

This has been a fun week of getting back to blogging. I went home last night for a little escape from school and, of course, to see my dog. Sometimes we all just need a little vacation, or a stay-cation if you don't have the time to get away. I love going to school just a couple of hours away from home because it means that I can come home for a home-cooked meal or meet Momma halfway for dinner on a regular basis. Remind me again why I want to move away after college? (just kidding...)

Friday Five: Christmas Break Smiles

It's the first Friday Five of Winter Break and I am yet again blogging from the (semi)comfort of my floor while my dog is curled up at my side and SportsCenter is on the TV. I'm sure at some point I am going to get a little bored of doing nothing all day, but for now, it feels amazing. Last night Momma and I went to the Washington Ballet Nutcracker at Warner Theatre, an annual tradition of ours. If you're from the DC area, I highly recommend going. The whole show is America/DC-themed and it's a fun spin on a classic, seriously the battle with the rats is the revolutionary war and the nutcracker is George Washington, I love it!

One: Garth Brooks Performs "Mom"

Garth Brooks is one of my all-time favorite artists and my momma is my best friend so I knew I was going to love this song. It seriously brought a few tears to my eyes so definitely give it a listen...just maybe not in the office.

Two: How to Make the World's Best Hot Chocolate

This looks absolutely amazing. I have never actually made hot chocolate from anything other than a premade mix, so I definitely want to try this. Also debating using it as a base for a hot chocolate float dessert. It would definitely be too rich for me, but whenever I make food and my brothers' friends are over, I can find at least one willing guinea pig.

Friday Five: Making the Most of Things

Sometimes it stinks having to be responsible. I know that I am a fourth year, but I just can't escape the stress of classes and other things in life. Instead of going to Knoxville for the weekend to visit my best friend, I am stuck in the library at school and going home for a night. Friday Five: Kate Middleton Shoes

Happy Friday Friends. I spent last night trying to get my life back together by reorganizing my closet and most of my room. Some days you just need a night off to get everything in order. 

1) News Anchor Dances to "Where They At Doe?"

My friend, Logan, shared this with me a couple of days ago and I think I watched it 5 times in a row. Now there are a couple of other videos of him dancing while his co-anchor gives him the evil eye, but this one is still my favorite. He is so dorky and just having a great time without caring what people think. Seriously, he makes me want to join in and embarrassing myself is literally my least favorite thing in the world.

2) Why Everyone Should Channel Their Inner Entrepreneur

This article is pretty well done and as an entrepreneur in the early stages of a business, I loved reading about the advantages of being one. "If no one's calling you crazy, then you're not thinking big enough." I don't think everyone has to be an entrepreneur, but I feel like entrepreneurs are the ones with the stories we use to inspire ourselves in all professional, and even personal, endeavors so why not think like one?

3) 11 Struggles Only People with the Name Erin Understand

My roommate posted this on my wall and another friend texted it to me so obviously this had to make the cut today. I was cracking up the whole time I read this list because it is all so true. I mean, I know there are names that have way more struggles than mine, but it is hilarious how many struggles there are for a fairly common, four-letter name! Also, one of the women at another store in the chain that I work at thinks my name is "Anne" not "Erin" and always calls me Annie-Bananie...I just go with it now.

Friday Five: All of Us

Apparently this is my first Friday Five since September...oops. Also, I turn 22 on Sunday. I can't believe it! I still am going to desperately attempt to get as much of that 22 by 22 list done in preparation for my 23 by 23 list that I will be unveiling on Sunday. 

1) 'Drunk J. Crew' is the J. Crew for All of Us

This tumblr is gold. I will probably never look at a J. Crew ad in the same way again and I am totally okay with that. Plus, the last drunk ad in this series is "burrito time" which is eerily similar to "two guys tacos time" that Meghan and I enjoy indulging in.

2) Factory Dotted Gigi Pants

Speaking of J. Crew...these came in yesterday and the second I tried them on, I decided to take that I was going to be wearing them as often as I can. They are so comfortable and cute in an understated way. Admittedly I am really partial to anything with polka dots, but I think these are universally appealing!

3) LeConte Lodge

Seeing as going camping is going to be added to my 23 by 23 list, this seems like a pretty cool trip for the spring or summer. And yes, I actually want to go camping. I don't know exactly why I am adding this to my list, but unless I change my mind in the next 48 hours, I will be needing to find some friends to rope into this outdoor adventure. That being said, this lodge has unbelievable views and I love that you have to hike to get to it, totally removing yourself from the hustle and bustle of every day life.

Friday Five: Inspired

I kept telling myself I wasn't going to dedicate an entire post to Derek Jeter. It isn't exactly what my readers come here to read and I am definitely more invested in this man's retirement than most of y'all. So instead I went with a variety of links that are more generally appealing. All of these are inspirational in some way. You may not find Derek Jeter inspiring, but there are so many other ways to be inspired and so many people in this world who make you think.
I hope everyone has a great weekend, and if you're in the Charlottesville area, come out to Hops for Hope at Star Hill Brewery tomorrow. They're going to donate $1 from every pint to UVA Relay For Life and they'll broadcast the game too!

One: Derek Jeter's Walkoff Single Ends His Shortstop Career

He is going to play at Fenway this weekend, but not at shortstop. I can't begin to describe the emotions that go into this one for me. There are few professional athletes in history who have achieved his level of fame and respect both on and off the field. He was never ejected from a game, umps, players, and fans love him, and he loved baseball. I honestly get emotional writing about this because it really is the end of an era, but it couldn't have ended in a better way than it did. The heavens stopped pouring for his final game in the Bronx and he finished the game as a hero. He may retire, but his legacy and what he has done for this ball club is present now and will be for years to come. Farewell, Captain. I know there's no crying in baseball, but I think we can make an exception for this moment.

Two: Emma Watson Speaks to the UN

This is one of those videos that I am sure many of you have seen, but I think it is worth watching a couple of times. I think I've watched it 3 times now and it hasn't gotten old. I love seeing women stand up for each other and putting the campaign for gender equality in such a great light. This is especially great because it addresses the issue on an international level, not just as a problem in corporate offices or schools in developed countries.

Three: Life Isn't Perfect

This is a cute picture and such a great quote. I pretty regularly think about how many things in my life aren't perfectly in place or how I originally pictured them. Perfection is overrated so why not be happy with the awesome things that happen in life. Without the hard moments, the good ones would be less enjoyable!

This has to be one of my favorite Ted Talks ever. I love her frankness and the perspective she approaches life with. She is inspiring because she is confident and well-spoken, not because she has overcome a physical handicap. "What if you are that person?" You think telling them they're an inspiration is a compliment, but how would you feel if living was considered inspirational. Personally, I would be offended if someone came into this coffee shop and told me that they were impressed that I got out of bed and went to get coffee and work.

This is really interesting. I love seeing power suits pop up on Pinterest and around in the working world. I love that they ask if it can really provide power. Friday Five: I Can't Come up with a Clever Title

Every week I find myself desperately awaiting the weekend. I just want it to come so that I can do nothing for some time before frantically throwing myself back into school work on Sunday. That being said, today I realized that every week that passes is one step closer to the real world. It's sad and scary all in one, I just can't believe it is actually happening!

One: Project Social T

I got a little package from my momma the other day that included this shirt and I absolutely love it. She gets me, what can I say. I guess it's my inner Carrie Bradshaw coming through. I hadn't heard of this brand before, but I absolutely love the material they use and they have some cool graphic tees. Their products are carried at Urban, Nordstrom, Topshop, and other stores. My momma saw this shirt for me at Nordstrom Rack, so if you want to check there, I'm sure they have some too!

Two: Former NFL Player Retired so He Could Donate Kidney to His Brother

With all the bad press that the NFL and its players have been getting in recent weeks, this is a nice change of pace. There is no way that I am condoning anything that has happened or that the players are doing, but please understand that it is not fair to characterize all players this way. This story was incredibly touching and I really hope that they both live happy and fulfilled lives after this.

Friday Five: Change It Up

Last night some of my friends and I went to a jazz bar on the downtown mall and it was such a nice change of pace from the normal bar scene...especially since my favorite outdoor one was closed for a date function! Structure is great, but sometimes slowing down or a bit of a switch up is not only necessary, but fun.

One: Sam Smith Covers "Fast Car"

I love this song. I think Tracy Chapman has such an awesome voice, plus I just like the rhythm of this song. Sam Smith does an amazing job covering this song. My friend, Lizzie, mentioned it last night and I am so glad she did. Side note, if you haven't listened to Sam Smith's album, do it now!

Two: Essie's Sand Tropez

You might be a bit confused by this, but I honestly don't know the last time I wore this color before putting it on this morning. Normally my neutral polish is Essie "Sugar Daddy" because I love the light pink tint to it, but I am so glad I put this color on. Different skin tones call for different neutrals, but this really is the perfect tan polish for my pale skin!

Three: Brunch in NYC 

Brunch is a mandatory change of pace. You are almost required to be lazy while enjoying this meal. I am a huge breakfast food fan and a good Sunday brunch is always a win in my book prior to a crazy week. I just love looking at all these NYC places to brunch and wishing that I could have brunch there tomorrow! I guess I'll just have to plan a trip...

The world lost one of the most brutally honest, lovable comedians yesterday. Joan Rivers is the reason we know what designers grace the red carpet and entertained us to no end on Fashion Police and in her stand-up career before that. So I actually haven't read all of these, what?!?! You'd think the book worm would've accomplished that. The idea of going back and rereading those books you were forced to analyze until you were blue in the face is not the most appealing, but I bet we'd get something out of them if we just read them on our own time now. Friday Five: Favorite Fall Outfit

Tomorrow is the first football game of the season and you know what that means...tailgate time! Oh, and also that Fall is just around the corner. Virginia is notorious for having finicky weather. You absolutely never know what the weather will be from week to week so there is a lot of random clothing in my closet during these next couple of months as we approach winter (ugh). 

Though I have a lot of clothing in my closet, I tend to favor my button downs and ponte pants this time of year. Honestly, if I had to describe my style it would be cute and comfortable, especially as it becomes time to add layers!

It is so hard to just pick a few items that I absolutely love for fall, but if I had to, these would be the ones that I am most excited about breaking out. Plus, together they form a cute and comfortable outfit that is totally customizable with other accessories!

One: Puffer Vest

I love my herringbone vest that I got last year and I am thinking of getting one of the cheaper ones from Old Navy in another color for this fall. These vests are the perfect layering piece for fall and they're aren't so bulky that they're annoying to carry around!

Two: Chambray Shirt

These shirts are the perfect neutral for any accessory or other loud piece in your outfit. I have an Old Navy and a J. Crew one and my momma just got one from Gap that she loves so they are easy to find in the fit and wash that you want!

Three: Ponte Pants

These pants are amazing because they really straddle that line between leggings and pants. I know that it is acceptable to wear leggings as pants in college, which I am totally in favor of, but these are a bit thicker and therefore a bit warmer. Plus, if you have a bit of junk in your trunk (like me) they are the perfect thickness.

Four: Fall Purse

Admittedly, I am more prone to carrying my Longchamp around because of college, but I love fall colors for purses. This purse I added here is actually the same style as my saddle colored one that I love so much from H&M. 

Five: Booties

I am so excited about this pair of shoes. I ordered them last week and they are exactly what I was looking for. There are so many styles out there that fit a host of needs, but personally, I wanted ones that would go a bit up my ankle and have the cut that these did. I'd never ordered from Sole Society before, but I definitely will again!

Friday Five: Back To School

In honor of my last year of college starting tomorrow, this Friday Five is all about college. I am not totally ready for this year to start because I feel like it's a bit of a countdown to graduation, but I am so happy to be back in Charlottesville with all my friends!

I'm a fan of watching TED talks while I get ready or if I want to watch Netflix in the middle of the day. I hadn't seen any of these before so it was pretty cool to get to watch them. I am so blessed to have such amazing college friends. I am still friends with people from Virginia Tech, and at UVA it's been no different. College friends are those people who you really learn about life with and have definitely seen you at your best, and your worst!

Friday Five: Clickbait

It's finally Friday and I head to UVA in two days. I am really excited. I am also really excited about this week's Friday Five, I am pretty sure that all of these links are clickbait. Don't know what clickbait is? Neither did I, but you'll find out if you keep reading!

One: New Words In the Dictionary

Good news, binge-watch is officially in the dictionary. Yeah, Oxford added it to the dictionary so that makes Netflix marathons more acceptable, right? I mean the dictionary accepts them. I honestly had never heard of some of these words, but I am a fast learner #humblebrag (another word that made the cut.) So get up to speed on your lingo so that you can text your friends "stop binge-watching Grey's Anatomy and check out this clickbait I just sent you" or something like that...

Two: Lauren Bacall and the Lady Blazer

Bacall was known most for that deep voice and her look. She had this fabulous signature chin-tucked glower that she was known for, that and she was married to Humphrey Bogart. She also had an amazing sense of style and this compilation of photos of her is very well done and definitely worth checking out. Plus, it includes a clip of the whistle scene, I totally want to be able to use this quote at some point in my life then gracefully exit the room.

Three: Derek and Joe and Club Level Seats

For those of you who follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed the picture I posted for you on Wednesday. It makes me so happy, that yes, it is being included in today's Friday Five. Wednesday was my last time seeing Derek Jeter play baseball (live) and my wonderful boss at my internship gave me 4 club level seats to see the game (perks of that job!). Then, as I am walking back from getting food, Momma and I passed Joe Torre. This is a big deal to any baseball fan, but to a Yankees fan, this is ah-freaking-mazing. So I put my food down, grab my ticket, and even though his a security guard is trying to get him into the suite, he grabs my ticket to sign it. I am pretty sure it's because I was in a Yankees tank and the only girl asking him for one. Anyways, I am clearly still on Cloud Nine.

Four: Girl In A Country Song

I first heard about this song a couple of weeks ago while watching Kathy Lee and Hoda, and they actually had Maddie and Tae on their show this week. These girls nailed it with this song. I mean, sure I still listen to Today's Country, but I largely prefer 90s and 00s country for many reasons, one is that I get tired of being expected to wear daisy dukes and respond to the endearing nickname, "girl."

Five: What Character Would You Play in a Disney Movie?

Who doesn't love a good buzzfeed quiz? Apparently, I would be the Princess in a Disney movie, a role that I am more than happy to play. Just hand over my tiara and adorable animal sidekick and I am ready to go!

Friday Five: Organized

Happy Friday! I can't believe that my move back to Charlottesville is just around the corner. I am so ready for getting back into the swing of things, yet I am not ready for it to be the final chapter of college! One of the nice things about going back to school is that I do get to go through my apartment and do some spring cleaning of sorts, which, for someone like me is both necessary and awesome.

1) How To Organize Accessories

Thank you Carly for sharing these tips. I have quite the collection of accessories and yet I struggle to take advantage of most of them because they're tucked away in boxes and my jewelry box. I am definitely making a trip to the Container Store for these bracelet and nail polish holders, plus a couple of other things. Seriously, the Container Store is a wonderful place for Type-A people...

Basically this is a collection of 30 pins of cute room details that are totally do-able in your own apartment or house. I love the inclusion of a bar cart because honestly, mine is one of my favorite parts of my room. I am going to do a little TLC upcycle on it when I get back to school and I can't wait to share!

I listened to this last week at work and I really needed to share it with y'all. I wasn't sure about it while I was listening to it, and honestly was kind of leaning towards not getting it, but somehow by the end I felt emotionally wrecked and yet, totally loving the music.
